four years of wedded bliss

Cheers to Four Years!
Thursday (23rd) we celebrated our four year anniversary! I thought for sure we'd have baby boy on our anniversary to make it extra special, but he's just not ready!

(most of the pictures by Samantha Alday Photography)

It seems like yesterday I was getting ready for our big day, worried because I didn't have enough hair to  hold my veil, but at the same time, not caring because we finally were getting married! I can't help but equate the length of our marriage to the amount of time I've been cancer free. 4 years! Can you believe it has been four years since my last chemo treatment? Four years since the doctor said that I'm cured! It all kind of seems like a blurry, distant dream.

Now, four years later, we're waiting for our little angel to arrive! We celebrated our anniversary by eating Mexican. (Surprise, surprise!) We can never have enough Mexican.
This week we've been trying to do everything that people have recommended to jump start labor. Long walks, stairs, squats, dancing, eggplant parm, pineapple, spicy food, etc. Still nothing!

My mom is on her way to North Carolina as I type. I'm so excited to have her here to help pre and post delivery! I'm a nervous wreck and there's just something calming about having your mama around!

I'm going to head to the grocery today for some last minute things for David to have for breakfast and lunch.  We're going to go to the local Botanical Gardens for a stroll and enjoy our last Saturday as a family of four (Poor Reb and Hutch have no idea what is about to hit them).

Tomorrow we're trying a new church, lunch out, and then mom and I will get a pedi before we check in to the hospital at 6pm to get this party started!
Next time I post it will be announcing baby Charlie's arrival!! YEA!!!

To hold you over, here's some really exciting news....
7 DAYS UNTIL FOOTBALL SEASON!!

due date and nursery pics

Today is the day we've been waiting for since November! We've been anxiously counting down to this magical date. I got ready for the doctor this morning, knowing there would be a huge chance that I would still not be dilated, but secretly hoping he'd say, "Wow! You're ready! Let's get you to the hospital NOW!" Instead, the doctor checked my cervix and said, "Come to my office. We need to schedule you to be induced." So, still nothing. I wanted them to induce me Friday because David has the day off, but they won't induce you unless you are 41 weeks exactly. Hopefully Charlie will make his debut before this weekend, but at the rate I've been progressing (meaning- not at all), I'm thinking we'll be inducing. If that's the case, we check in to the hospital Sunday night at 6 for me to receive cervidil for 12 hours, then pitocin the following morning. If baby isn't here by Monday afternoon, they'll do a c-section. I left the office and sat in my car boo-hooing. I should be so excited that I will be holding my baby boy within a week, but this visit scared me. I'm scared that I'll push for several hours, tear, and then have a c-section. So I'll have tears and a painful abdominal scar. I'm also scared that David won't be able to make it in time. I have so many worries going through my mind now. I really have to focus on praying for peace of mind and handing my worries over. You all know that's hard for me because I am a HUGE worry wart, but I'm working on lifting up my worries and letting the Lord take them. It will all work out and I'll have a sweet angel boy by the time this is all over! So now, we wait...

Here are some pictures of the nursery. I'm pretty much done; I just have a few little things like staging the shelves left.

The crib was a wonderful surprise from the hostesses of my Montgomery shower. It's a Jenny Lind crib with a linen bed skirt from Three Sheets. Sheets are Natural Organic Cotton jersey knit sheets in neutral from BuyBuy Baby and they are amazing. My mom had the bumper made with a cream matelasse and dusty blue piping and ties. I found the frames at Cottontails. The vendor was Quite A Pair Keepsakes out of Georgia. Here's a closer view:
Fabrics:
I didn't plan on using SO much chevron, but I had a lot left over, so it became the curtains, a pillow, the  trim and ruffles on the runner, and the french laundry basket liner. It's a chevron explosion.

For the changing table, we used my great-grandmother's buffet.  It's the piece we used to have in the dining room in Auburn, but we didn't really have a place for it in NC. We painted it white and I made burlap runner with chevron trim and ruffles.  I still need to scuff up the buffet to make it a little more rustic. The lamps are from my mom's boss. They're AWESOME in person. I found a project on Pinterest where you wrap wooden letters in yarn for decorative wall art, so I attempted Charlie's initials. It was quite an ordeal. At the time, I had no idea that the booming metropolis of Fayetteville actually  had a Hobby Lobby. I found a Michael's (which I typically love), but this one is VERY small, not well stocked, and doesn't have a fabric department. They had some 12" letters, but of course, no C, H, or P.  Soooo, I bought an 'I' and some foam board. I used the 'I' to create the H and P, then used a plate to help make the C.  I then wrapped each letter with twine. It takes A LOT more twine than you think it would!! Foam board isn't the most sturdy option, but it worked.  I used twine because it was more masculine than yarn and went better with the burlap in the runner.
Here's a detail of the runner:
I made the chevron curtains and the slipcover for the chair. David's brother, Joseph, made the table for Charlie. He built it using barn wood from their grandfather's old barn. Pretty cool! It will be a staple in Charlie's room as he grows up.
 Close up of the table.
(Joanna made the blocks with Charlie's name for my Auburn shower)
And of course, a little piece of home. I purchased this print off of Etsy. Rebecca painted a wooden frame for this print so that I can hang it by the closet.
Now I'm trying to stage the shelves. Elizabeth has some of the coolest and most random things on her shelves throughout her new house and she said the best tip is to buy what you like even if you don't really know what you're going to do with it exactly, and the shelves will come together. So when I come home, Charlie and I will be knick knack shopping! I really want some vintage children books, a lantern, and an old school Aubie, so be on the lookout!

That's all for now... I'll keep you posted with baby boy's progress.

welcome to blogging?

I've created this blog with the intention of keeping family and friends updated with our family happenings while we live away. I can't promise that I'll stay on top of the blogging once baby P arrives, but I'm going to try my best!!!

Here's a 2012 photo dump to get you up to speed on life as we know it:

Our furry children:

had an announcement to make:

surprise!
(We ordered our announcements from Tiny Prints. We picked our favorite, then worked with their customer service/design people to change layout, wording, font, etc. They are WONDERFUL to work with!)

Gender Reveal with friends in Auburn

Baby Boy Palmer:

4D of little Charlie hiding his face... stubborn like his mama!

Big Move to NC

Reb and Hutch miss their backyard in Auburn, but love their new carpeted stairs.
Reb sits at the top so that he can see out of the semi circle window

and Hutch sits awkwardly so that he can see out of the door.

And all of a sudden, here we are at 39 weeks!

I go back to the doctor on Monday (due date)!! We'll see if this little booger has made any progress!
I'll keep you posted and hopefully post pictures of the nursery soon. This weekend we will be making last minute little changes and WALKING A LOT!
