I was so worried about flying with Charlie. I knew I'd get flustered and he'd get bored and fuss to get down and crawl around. Just in case, I made goodie bags with mints, suckers, and EAR PLUGS. Everyone was very sweet and very patient with us. Luckily, the flights to Birmingham went smoothly.
Charlie slept almost the whole time.
We ate dinner at Uncle Jay and Aunt Dawn's house Thursday night. Aunt Dawn prepared and Uncle Jay grilled these stuffed pesto cheese burgers that were out of this world. So delicious! The outside patio was so relaxing and we had the most wonderful night visiting with everyone.
Skipping ahead to the flight home on Mother's Day... Terrible. We missed our first flight because I left my wallet in the car and realized it as Dad was pulling away. He couldn't find his cell phone when we were loading up, so we just left without it. I had no way of getting in touch with him. I called Lisa and she waited in the driveway for him to tell him to turn around and come back to get me. We didn't make it in time, so Joe W. with US Airways got me on a later flight. He was so nice and understanding as tears were falling and I was sniffling in between words. I was so exhausted from the weekend and it doesn't take much for me to cry anyways, so you can imagine what a hot mess I was. The first flight was okay. I had the nicest people around me. Charlie played and banged on the window and shouted "AHH" every few seconds, but everyone thought it was precious, so that was a relief! We had an hour layover in Charlotte, so we strolled laps around the airport. Charlie fell asleep, despite my best efforts to keep him awake.
I thought he'd sleep the entire 2nd flight, but that was not the case. We were on a tiny plane with 9 rows and we taxied FOREVER. It was SO HOT. Charlie was restless and I felt nauseated with turbulence and no air. He fussed and cried on and off for a while. We were on the back row with 5 people across and 2 kids in laps. I was in the middle so we had great leg room, but no where to store our bag. Luckily the nice lady next to us let us keep it under her seat. Unfortunately for her, we needed access to that bag every 5 minutes. Getting toys, bottles, books, anything to offer entertainment. I have never been so happy to land. Happy Mother's Day to me!
We were so excited to see David! After we got home, David took Charlie to pick up dinner so that I could rest. He fed Charlie, bathed him, and got him ready for bed. The highlight of my Mother's Day: David was changing Charlie's diaper and was fanning his bottom to let it dry out. Charlie peed EVERYWHERE! David prides himself on his 8 1/2 month streak of never getting peed or poo-ed on and it all came to an end on Mother's Day. We laughed so hard and I managed to squeak out "Best. Mother's. Day. Ever!"
